Chris Evert
Chris Evert is an American former tennis champion who won 18 major singles titles and was world No. 1 for 260 weeks.
Career
Evert’s precise baseline game and concentration produced one of tennis’s most consistent records. She won 18 major singles titles, including seven French Opens, and reached 34 major finals. Her 125-match clay-court winning streak from 1973 to 1979 remains one of the sport’s longest surface streaks.
Record and legacy
Evert retired in 1989 after more than a decade among the top players. She served twice as WTA president and became a television analyst. Her rivalry with Martina Navratilova gave tennis a sustained story of contrasting styles, while her own record made consistency a hallmark.
