Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi was an Indian lawyer and anti-colonial leader whose philosophy of satyagraha shaped movements for civil rights and independence. His political work drew on religious ideas of truth, nonviolence, and self-discipline.
Satyagraha and independence
Gandhi developed nonviolent resistance in South Africa and later led mass campaigns against British rule in India. The Salt March and the Quit India movement brought large numbers of people into civil disobedience and made him a globally known political leader.
