About Monica Seles
Career
Seles rose rapidly with a powerful two-handed game on both sides. The Hall of Fame records nine major singles titles, including three consecutive French Opens from 1990 to 1992. She reached world No. 1 at 18 and won seven major finals before turning 20.
Record and legacy
A 1993 attack during a tournament in Hamburg interrupted Seles’s career at its height. She returned to major competition in 1995 and won the 1996 Australian Open. She officially retired in 2008; her record includes both a dominant early run and a consequential return.
